An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a recording of the heart's electrical activity over time, produced by an electrocardiograph. It shows a line graph of voltage versus time, capturing the depolarization and repolarization of cardiac muscle during each heartbeat. The ECG is a fundamental tool in cardiology, used to detect a wide range of cardiac abnormalities, including rhythm disturbances, inadequate coronary blood flow, and electrolyte imbalances.
